Description
In Black, Avakian concentrates the image within a zone of great visual density. Black dominates the surface, yet blues, greens and whites cut through it, opening internal spaces within the matter. The brushstroke moves with force, covering, dragging and revealing areas of tension where gesture seems to organize itself through impulse.
The work builds an intense, almost nocturnal atmosphere, in which painting becomes body, weight and movement. Abstraction operates as a form of contained energy, ready to overflow the surface.
