In Hands, traces and gestures are scattered across the paper among black stains, drips and marks. The forms of fingers appear briefly and then dissolve into a broader visual writing.
The composition combines direct contact and movement, allowing bodily impressions to coexist with spontaneous marks. Avakian treats the hand as sign, presence and record of an action that remains on the surface.
