Description
In Black Portrait, Alejandro Avakian pushes the figure to the threshold of appearance. Through black washes, veils, and forceful strokes, the portrait emerges from shadow as an unstable presence, suspended between recognition and dissolution. The ink, handled with gestural intensity, turns the paper into a field of tension where the image seems to form and vanish at once.
Rather than describing a face, the work explores inner states and latent memories. The figure remains as an emotional trace, charged with contained energy that transforms portraiture into a psychological and sensorial experience.
