The surface is organized like a map of black stains and open areas that seem to expand, fragment and reconnect. The forms suggest currents, foam and traces of an image subjected to movement.
The strong contrast destabilizes the relationship between figure and ground, allowing each area to read as either matter or void. Steinnekker approaches the sea through its rhythms and transformations, pushing the image toward an energetic abstraction.
