In Signes Sur Croix, Antoni Tàpies condenses some of the central symbols of his mature language: the cross, the trace, and matter as a surface of thought. Created in 1976, during a period of intense graphic production, the work reflects his interest in elemental signs and in an austere poetics linked to European Informalism and Eastern spirituality. The use of collage reinforces the tactile dimension of the image.
This piece is exceptionally rare as the only existing A.P. (Artist’s Proof).
