Description
In La noche que no fue, Estienne shifts portraiture toward a collective scene. A group of figures moves through the dark, lit by green and white flashes that make the image hover between nocturnal walk, photographic memory and apparition. The bodies are present, yet their features dissolve into a spectral atmosphere.
The work engages with the idea of the image as artifice: what seems to be directly captured is revealed as constructed, filtered and transformed by the gaze. Against the immediate sharpness of technological images, Estienne proposes a painting in which night becomes a fragile material, made of lights, absences and movements that never fully settle.
