Benito Quinquela Martín
Atracando, c. 1940
–
In Atracando, Quinquela Martín concentrates the energy of the port of La Boca in the physical effort of dockworkers handling the mooring lines. Figures, ropes, vessels, and port architecture are woven together through a dense network of lines and contrasts, translating into etching one of the central themes of his work: collective labor and life along the Riachuelo.
This impression is signed by the artist at lower right, titled ATRACANDO at the center, and bears a handwritten dedication at lower left.
