Hugo Ottmann
Composition, 1965
-
In Composition, Hugo Ottmann constructs the image through geometric planes, simplified figures, and areas of pronounced material density. Greens, blues, ochres, and blacks are articulated against a deep background, creating a visual structure in which the elements shift between abstraction, figuration, and architectural evocation.
Executed in 1965, the work belongs to the artist’s mature period and reflects the modern language he developed within the renewal of the visual arts in Rosario. Associated with Grupo Litoral, Ottmann worked through formal synthesis, geometric construction, and the transformation of objects and figures into signs of strong pictorial presence.
The work is signed and dated lower right: “Ottmann 65”. The reverse bears a handwritten inscription with the title, artist’s name, and date: “Composición / Ottmann / 1965”.
