Roberto Plate
Untitled
-
In this work on paper, Roberto Plate constructs an image of strong graphic presence around an enlarged anatomical form, defined through free yet highly detailed linear drawing. The accumulation of marks describes volume, folds, and texture, while the grey background, structured through geometric planes, heightens the contrast with the central figure.
The combination of line, wash, and flat surfaces creates a tension between observation and abstraction. The extreme proximity of the subject transforms a recognizable bodily image into an ambiguous and expressive structure. The handwritten dedication also gives the work an intimate character, directly connecting it to the personal history of the artist and its recipient.
