In this panoramic view of the Valle Umbra, Laurenzio Laurenzi constructs a highly detailed landscape, with Assisi, the cypress trees and the course of the river organizing the depth of the composition. The image combines topographical observation with the meticulous linear treatment characteristic of the artist’s graphic work.
The lower section incorporates ornamental cartouches with engraved inscriptions. One refers to Gabriele D’Annunzio and the Valle Umbra; the other mentions the Temple of San Francesco, Assisi, and the date MCMXXII, corresponding to 1922. The impression also bears a pencil signature, “Laurenzi”, in the lower margin.
